How IntroVerify works

Artists get targeted by commission scams constantly. IntroVerify is how an artist checks that the person contacting them is real before they start work. If you're a real buyer, it costs you about a minute and asks for nothing unusual.

If an artist sent you a code

1
An artist sends you a code and a link

Eight digits, along with a link to that artist's page. The code works once and expires after 72 hours.

2
You enter the code and a few details

Your name, the country you're in, and your email address. There is no account to create and no password to pick.

3
You confirm your email address

We email you a short code and you type it back. Every check includes this step.

4
Sometimes, a code by text message

Some checks also ask for a phone number and text a code to it. Whether yours does depends on what the earlier steps turned up.

5
Occasionally, a $10 good-faith payment

A smaller group is asked to pay $10 by card. That money goes to the artist and not to us. Whether it's credited toward the work, refunded, or kept is between you and them, so ask them before you pay. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.

6
The artist gets an answer

They see whether you finished the checks, not a score and not a judgment of you as a person. What they do with it is their decision.

What the artist sees

The artist who asked for the check sees the result, which steps it asked for and whether you completed each one, the country you said you were in, the country your connection appeared to come from, your email address once you've confirmed it, and the status of any good-faith payment.

What they never see

Your name, your phone number, your IP address, your device details, and the scoring behind the result. We ask for your name so the check has something to work with. We don't hand it over.

Our Privacy Policy covers what we keep, how long we keep it, and how to ask us to delete it.

If you're the artist

Signing up gives you a page of your own and codes to hand out. Generate one when somebody contacts you, send it over, and read the result before you commit to anything. Real buyers rarely comment on it. The ones who won't go near it have told you something worth knowing.
